Mural: The Ocean's Strength

Location: Gallery Lane, Frankston (Wilson Car Park Ramp)

Description

N'Dene explains, "In Palawa, the Auntie's said that Sea Life travel between Victorian and Tasmanian shores. Sea life creatures are strong souls, giving strength and harmony to all of us if we stop and look within it. Our local bay has many that need our protection and care.

I have painted those inhabitants in the Hope that we remember under the loa maggalangta (deep water) there is significant creatures that deserve our attention and support. That when you walk past this painting you remember them and take action in their protection."

Artist's Bio

N’Dene Riley is an emerging artist best known for her luminant imagery of the ocean and sea life.

With ancestry from the Aboriginal people of Tasmania, she now resides on the Mornington Peninsula. Her relationship with the land and the water informs her work, seeking tribute to the strength and beauty of the ocean along with its healing powers. She draws on her connection to her ancestors and the stories passed down about how to respect and care for the ocean.

Through the use of circles and symbols, she portrays a connectedness between all living things. Working mainly with acrylic on canvas, N’Dene imparts a unique message of hope and positivity with every painting.

This Street Artworks is a reconciliation event with First People's Health and Wellness and Wilson's Car Park staff. All staff helped with the undercoating including the much loved Peta Murphy MP and Paul Edbrook MP.
