Description
Mural Name: Guardians of the Wild
Artist: Jolien De Waele (Kitsune Joelene)
Artist Biography:
Kitsune Jolene (Jolien De Waele) is a female Belgian-born contemporary mural and canvas artist working between Australia and Europe and the world. Her practice sits within surreal figurative muralism, often blending symbolic figures with botanical forms and poetic emotional storytelling.
Using her bold, recognizable colour palettes driven by emotion and flowing compositions, her work explores themes of transformation, intimacy, human connection and the human relationship with nature. Jolene creates immersive large scale works that feel dreamlike and grounded. Her murals aim to invite quiet reflection while maintaining a strong visual presence within the public space. Major themes to her are the individual's exploration of a felt life, caring deeply about mental health and the preservation and protection of our natural world and all beings in it.
Apart from her personal direction in arts, she has created commisions built specifically for storytelling towards clients goals such as for Disney, the Belgian embassy's in Greece and Thailand, as well as for city councils in Belgium, The Netherlands, Australia and America.
Jolene went to University of Ghent to become an Art Historian but ended up abandoning her masters to chase a creative existence.
Description of Artwork:
The mural Guardians of the Wild is a reminder to protect the wildlife that has been around for centuries, now displaced by climate change and loss of habitat. By bringing them into our space we can reflect on how we both share this world as our mutual habitat to protect.
