Artist Biography:

Arina Apostolova is a Ukrainian mural artist living and creating in Australia with a background in architecture. Her work explores themes of human connection, emotion, and the relationship between people and their environment. She has created large-scale public artworks across Australia, collaborating with councils, schools, and community organisations.

Arina’s murals combine realism with symbolic elements, creating visually engaging works that carry deeper narratives around care, identity, and belonging.

Description of Artwork:

This mural is about my daughter. She sits inside a box while my hands gently hold her, and she reaches toward a glowing light.

For me, it represents hope, guidance, and the balance between protecting a child and allowing them to grow. As parents, we can’t control everything around our children, but we can support them and help them find their own direction.

The glowing lamp carries the word “Australia”, symbolising a bright future and a sense of belonging and opportunity.

The work reflects on the importance of care, empathy, and human connection — values that feel increasingly important today. When children grow up feeling safe and loved, they carry this into the world, shaping a more compassionate society.

The lorikeets moving around the composition symbolise life in all its colour and diversity. They also represent protection, surrounding the figure with energy and vibrancy.

This mural connects to my earlier work at Bayside Shopping Centre, continuing a narrative around imagination, care, and our relationship with the natural world.
