SMLWRLD - Zoetrope bridge

Frankston City Public Art Frankston

Description

Zoetrope is the bridge linking Davey Street to Long Island and the Frankston Yacht Club.

Description

Artist: SMLWRLD

Location: 300N Nepean Highway, Frankston

The Zoetrope Bridge, completed in March of 2012, is both a pedestrian and vehicle combined bridge constructed with the intension to increase and better the access available to the fishing and sailing facilities on the beach side of Kananook Creek. After the construction of the bare concrete bridge it was in need of some attention and joy to be added. SMLWRLD (a small team of artists and architects) we brought in with the task of blurring the transition as you cross from the natural environment on the beach side to the urban environment. Rolled steel balustrade was used to create a sense of movement and flow with the end result transforming a crass concrete bridge into a bridge of beauty.
