Description

Discover the Kananook Creek Walking Trail

The Kananook Creek Walking Trail is a hidden gem weaving through one of Frankston’s most picturesque natural environments. Stretching 7.5 kilometres from Frankston Pier to Eel Race Road in Seaford, the trail follows the tranquil course of Kananook Creek, which runs parallel to the coastline and connects the Seaford Wetlands to the Frankston Foreshore.

Perfect for both leisurely strolls and more energetic hikes, the trail features multiple access points, allowing visitors to walk short sections or enjoy the entire length. Many walkers choose to return via the scenic Seaford Foreshore Trail or link up with the shared path around the Seaford Wetlands. Entry points such as McCulloch Avenue and Broughton Street Reserve are clearly marked with signage by Frankston City Council.

Rich in history and biodiversity, this reserve is a haven for native wildlife and indigenous plant species. The Bunurong people once gathered here, drawn by the creek’s abundant fish and freshwater, especially during the annual eel spawning. Today, the area is a peaceful sanctuary for nature lovers.

Canoe launching sites are available at Riviera Street, Broughton Street Reserve, and near McCulloch Avenue, offering another way to explore this unique waterway.

Whether you're walking, birdwatching, or simply seeking a quiet place to reflect, the Kananook Creek Walking Trail is a reminder of the natural beauty that still thrives within our urban surroundings. Walk softly, pause often, and let the creek's quiet charm reveal itself.
