Fenced children's playgrounds are the holy grail for mums, dads and caregivers everywhere looking for a destination to let the kids burn off that excess energy without the stress of a great escape.
We see the question, 'Is it fenced?' asked often across social media when a new playground is created. So, we thought we'd do some of the researching for you (we kinda figured you had your hands full already) to find some of Frankston City's best fenced playgrounds for a stress-free afternoon in the outdoors.
Who knows, mum/dad/caregiver may even get a moment to enjoy a hot coffee while they're there!
Overport Park
Corner Somerset Road and Overport Road, Frankston South

Overport Park in Frankston South may just be the ultimate family hangout. This District level playground has sporting fields, native bushland, dog free roam area, and walking trails (and the recently completed Bike Park opposite the football oval!), but the real icon is the fully fenced playground.
In the playground you'll find a climbing wall, swings, fireman's pole, slides, ladders, monkey bars and wobbly bridge. Plus for that extra bit of magic there's also a big green tractor and dinosaur and bumblebee rocking horse. Outside the fenced area, the bigger kids can use a large tennis/rebound wall, and there are shaded picnic tables as well.
Did we mention this playground also has free parking and toilets?
This playground is the answer to the question every parent/caregiver was asking. Make sure you stop by and check it out.

Montague Park

You may know Montague Park as the home of the Montague Kindergarten or Montague Scout Hall, but did you know it also has a fully fenced playground?
Wander along Kars Street and there is it like a beacon. Under shade sails you'll find a traditional style playground that kids can climb, balance, slide and make make-believe as they crawl through tunnels, fly on the see-saw, spin on the carousel and fight pirates on the plastic boat.
Surrounding the playground, soccer fields, basketball court and a dig friendly off leash area join together to keep every member of the family occupied.

George Pentland Botanic Gardens

Have you ever wondered what an enchanted playground in a fairytale may look like? Then head to George Pentland Botanic Gardens and wonder no-more.
The climbing structure is a tree house (!) with throws back to Jack's giant beanstalk where green leaves create shade for the little explorers who dare to climb. This is where imaginations truly run wild.
Smaller kids will adore the ladybug and bumblebee rocking horses, the sand pit and inclusive carousel, while older kids will be challenged with a six-person rope swing, see saw and slides. Keep an eye out for the spider sculptures!
Surrounded by the gardens, an ornamental lake and plenty of grass to run, do handstands, kick the footy or just relax, this space also has toilets, BBQs and shade so you can spend the whole day there if you dare!

When you're at George Pentland and feeling peckish, you really can't go past the Foot Street Shopping Strip. Here you'll find Foot Street Bakery (a local favourite), Down the Street cafe or Sam's Cafe for a morning snack, lunch or well-earned coffee and milkshake.
Or if you're looking for dinner on the way home from a late arvo play check out Footsie's Pizza, Peter's Fish and Chips or Lucky Inn Chinese. Yum!

The playground at Frankston's waterfront has always been a favourite. Set in the most ideal location in summer and set-back from the weather coming in over the bay in winter, the play space is huge, fenced, with toilets, BBQs, tables and shade. What more could you ask for?
Kids will love the swings, the slides, the climbing wall and ropes bridges that create a unique adventure park perfect for tag, hide and seek and games of adventure and imagination. There's also a sand pit (of course!), giant shell, boats and climbing logs and as an all-abilities playground there is also Liberty Swing for children and adults in wheelchairs.

If you're coming from Oliver's Hill then stop in at Little Olly's at the boat ramp for coffee and sweet pastries. Or for those who arrive near the pier, wander over the bridge to see the team at Oliver's Corner.
If you think the kids have burned enough energy to sit for a meal, then make you can't go past Cheeky Squire, The Deck (kids eat free all day Sunday), The Grand Hotel or Hotel Lona (kids eat free Monday - Thursday) for something more substantial.... and maybe a glass of wine.
Kananook Reserve Playground

Got a kid who loves to climb? Then this little gem is what you've been looking for.
Of course, it is fenced, but that's not all. The equipment here is a little different to what we've been seeing pop-up in playgrounds recently. Think bold colours There's slides, monkey bars, and towers, but there's also a really cool rock-climbing wall and a diamond cube climbing frame that will challenge both the body and minds of your little people.
With toilets, a BBQ, picnic tables and right near a footy oval, you could make a day of it here without a worry.

There are a few milk bars in the vicinity of this playground, but if you're happy to detour you'll find a few gems to feed and water the kids (and you) in Seaford Village.
In Seaford Village your options are seemingly endless. From Seaford Beach Cafe and 38 South to 18 Eighty-eight Cafe, Spanish Bar, Tres Mexican, Pizza at Table 55 and the Seaford Eatery - you won't go hungry. And don't forget Gelato UNOU for dessert.
Wisewould Avenue Reserve

This colourful fenced gem is perfect for little people with big imaginations and a love of the sea. The main structure becomes a tiny house to set-up shop, play mums and dads, or become a captured princess in the castle. Toward the front, the house becomes a ship, ready for pirate adventures on the high seas. The climbing stairs, slides and fireman's pole make the games even more fun as their imaginations create new worlds of fun.
There's also an in-built trampoline for those who love to jump and swings as well. Not to mention a park bench for relaxing while the kids play.
Unfortunately, with no toilets this playground is better for short visits rather than a day of play. But grab a coffee and something to eat on the way, and it is definitely worth a visit to get some fresh air.

Again, you'll need to stop on the way or the way home when visiting this playground. Along Nepean Highway closer to Frankston a trip to One Pear Tree or Blak Fig Cafe. If it's time to stop running and sit for lunch or dinner then make sure you consider Le Feu Frankston (an entirely gluten free Vietnamese and Pan-Asian restaurant), Frankston Brewhouse (Thursday - Sunday) or Ceylon Girl's Cafe if you have a family member that enjoy Sri Lakan flavours.
Lady Emily Reserve Playground
10 Lady Emily Way, Skye

Nestled in one of Skye's estates, Lady Emily Reserve Playground is a colourful oasis for kids.
There's an in-built trampoline, a rock-climbing wall, rope ladders, bridges, monkey bars, spinners, and tunnels plus heaps more. Not to mention the pump track that goes around the edges of the playground for those with scooters and bikes and a basketball half-court too.
Technically fully-fenced, but there are some gaps to be aware of. There are also no toilets, so unless you know someone who lives in the estate or you do, you are limited in your play stay when nature calls.

Head over to the Carrum Downs Plaza on Ballarto Road, before or after your play to refuel. Here you'll find local favourite, Frankie's Coffee and Eats, serving up delicious breakfasts, snacks and lunches, and of course coffee too.

Kareela Road Reserve Playground

Located next to the Kareela Road shopping strip the Kareela Road Playground is loved by the locals and visitors alike.
With a multi-play tower with two slides, basket swing, carousel, spring rocker, climbing, crawl tunnels and more - the kids won't get bored here. And Parents and Caregivers can relax with a take-away coffee at the picnic tables behind a very secure fence and gate.
On a sunny weekend morning, it can get crowded with groups of friends and families gathering to make the most of this colourful space so close to food and drink options that keep every member of the family satisfied.

The Kareela Road shops are definitely up there on the IYKYK weekend destination list. Two Boys, One Beagle and A Coffee Shop deliver the breakfast, brunch and lunch goods, and Coffee on Kareela is a cafe for locals run by locals. While you are there make sure you check out Herbert's Corner Store which has the most unique and quirky gifts and homewares, alongside handmade ceramics store Koa by Kaitlin, and IMHS Charity Shop is known for their amazing op shop finds.
Orwil Reserve Playground

Fully fenced and recently upgraded. Orwil Preserve playground perfectly balancesg nature-play with traditional play equipment to create a space that is colourful and engaging without being overwhelming.
Kids will love seeing how far they can jump on the steppingstones and logs, climbing the frames, conquering the monkey bars, balancing over bridges and rushing down the slides.
A great park for those with big imaginations and a love of adventure, if this playground had toilets you could be here all day!

Head towards Beach Street in Frankston and there are heaps of food and drink options available. From our friends at Captain Gummy's fish and chips (who have a gluten free menu for the coeliacs in the family) to Wildness Cafe who have amazing live music on the weekend, Dumpling Lin with a dumpling selection that dreams are made of, Olive and Pineapple serving delicious pizzas and Okami Japanese doing all you can eat sessions, there really is something for everyone here!
